May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. With warmer weather, it’s time to remind everyone to be on the alert and to share the road with motorcyclists.
Both motorcyclists and motorists need to be aware of their surroundings. Checking blind spots, mirrors and using turn signals are necessary when changing lanes and when passing.

The leading cause of death for teens in the United States is traffic crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers. Summer months are especially dangerous for teens on the road. Fortunately, most teen motor vehicle crashes are preventable, and proven strategies can improve the safety of young drivers on the road.

Ontario County STOP-DWI Administrator Sue Cirencione announced today that Ontario County police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crack down on impaired driving.
The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on Friday, May 24th and will end on Tuesday, May 28th. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and marks the official start of summer. New York State Police, County Sheriffs and municipal law enforcement agencies will collaborate across the state and will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of impaired driving-related injuries and deaths.
