Dr. Molly Scharf of Thompson Health's Lima Family Practice and Dr. Jim Wallace, an associate professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center, will present a program that is open to the community as part of the "Straight from the Expert" series offered by Thompson's Wellness Hub program. Both are involved with ProjectTeach, a program funded by the NYS Office of Mental Health. The program works to streangthen and support the ability of pediatric primary care providers to deliver care to children and families who experience mild-to-moderate mental health concerns, such as anxiety, ADHD, depression and aggression. This support group meets every other month and welcomes all looking for support in dealing with all types of lymphedema. Those attending the meetings are welcome to share their experiences with lymphedema, including forms of treatment and therapy. The group is facilitated by Angela Kiklowicz, a Thompson Health occupational therapist and licensed massage therapist who is certified in Complete Decongestive Therapy for the treatment of lymphedema. This new group has formed out of the need for honesty and support amongst mothers struggling with a mood and/or anxiety disorder that occurs during pregnancy, or after the birth of a new baby. This includes mothers struggling with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Facilitated by Maureen Kellogg of Thompson's Social Work Department, Thompson Health Lactation Consultant/RN Courtney Phillips and a volunteer from the community, the group will offer moms a "safe space" to be transparent about motherhood, mental health, and all the little things in between, providing opportunities to talk with others who have been through or are currently walking through this same season of life.
