Ontario County STOP-DWI is responsible for the development of local programs which discourage drinking and driving. Funding comes entirely from court-imposed fines from offenders . No tax dollars at any level are used to support its activities.

STOP-DWI is based on the philosophy that innovative local efforts are the key to solving the drinking/driving problem. The intention of the legislation creating the program was to provide funding for the improvement and expansion of existing programs, and to develop new methods for the evaluation of progress. The emphasis of the program is to coordinate as many deterrents as possible, providing comprehensive solutions.
