Pretrial Release Program
By Kevin Case, A.T.I. Officer

The Ontario County Pretrial Release Program has been operating since February 20, 2001.  The Pretrial Release Program (PTR) is designed to facilitate release from jail without financial conditions and tries to identify appropriate offenders for Release Under Supervision.  I provide information and assessments to the Court, which enables Judges to release those defendants who are good risks to re-appear in Court when scheduled.  I supervise those defendants released to the supervision of the PTR program.

Since February 2001, the PTR program has supervised a total of 73 defendants.  Of the 73 defendants, 5 defendants were referred directly by the Courts to be supervised by the program; the Courts released 57 defendants from the jail after being determined eligible by PTR standards; the Courts released 11 defendants from the jail after being determined not eligible by PTR standards.

Since its inception, 44 defendants have successfully completed the PTR program.  This means that these defendants complied with the conditions of their release, made all their court appearances, and their Court cases had reached a final disposition.  Additionally, there have been 6 defendants unsuccessfully terminated or violated from the program. Currently, there are 22 cases being actively supervised by the PTR program.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Judges and court personnel for their openness to this new program.  Additionally, I would also like to thank the jail correctional staff that I interact with on a daily basis for their assistance and cooperation.  The program has proven its credibility and its place in the Criminal Justice System.  We have met our initial goals for 2001.  I look forward to the anticipated growth of the program for the upcoming year.  From PTR and ATI, I would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season.
