Organization and Structure of the Water Resources Council
The Ontario County Water Resources Council (VTRC) was established by resolution of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors. The Supervisors charged the Council with protecting and striving to improve the water resources of Ontario County. This charge includes both surface and groundwater resources, and encompasses both water quality and quantity issues. The Council is composed of both voting and non-voting organizations, which represent local boards, and federal, state and local agencies. Membership on the WRC is by organization designated by the Board of Supervisors.
Purpose of the Water Resources Council
The purpose of the Ontario County Water Resources Council is to integrate the diverse
point/non-point source water quality/quantity pollution control and abatement programs of various county, state, and federal agencies and organizations into a coordinated, comprehensive, and effective inter-agency approach at the county level. The Council provides a forum for involvement in water resources planning and management, and more efficient use of the limited resources available. The Council also provides an opportunity for cooperation with other regional committees on water resource issues.
Function of the Water Resources Council
The Ontario County Water Resources Council's primary functions will be to set overall direction for policy making by local government, and to identify problems that should be addressed and to target assistance. Other
functions of the Council include advisory, information sharing, and team building. Assistance will be multi-disciplinary with technical expertise being provided to define problems and describe potential solutions. Educational assistance will afford an opportunity for public and private individuals to learn about water quality and quantity issues. Local municipalities will aid in bringing concerns forward and taking information back to the public, whereas representation from organizations will track water quality concerns in their area of interest and contribute to the direction of water quality management within the County. |
