EMERGENCY BLUE LIGHT PROGRAM
Every minute, even a few seconds, can make an important difference in an emergency. If you need help in a hurry, the Ontario County Blue Light Program may save critical time in bringing assistance to you. |
|
What is a Blue Light Unit?
Your Blue Light kit consists of a blue light bulb and a flasher component. These are placed in an ordinary light socket and the blue light flashes when activated. Quickly and easily installed, it becomes a beacon in your window to speed assistance. |

|
How does the program work?
It’s simple. In an emergency, you first call 911, if you can. Then you activate the Blue Light to notify emergency responders of your location.
In some cases you may not be able to call 911 but still can turn on your Blue Light. You will want to arrange an “Emergency System” with your neighbors. When they see your blue light flashing, they will get the help you need. |
|
When should I use the Blue Light?
Only use your Blue Light unit in an emergency.
PLEASE ACTIVATE YOUR BLUE LIGHT ONLY IN AN EMERGENCY.
Be careful not to turn it on by accident.
Turn it off when it is not needed. |
|
Anything else I should know?
Contact Office for the Aging to request a Blue Light. Your local police will deliver and set up the unit. You supply the lamp. Test the unit every so often to be sure it is working properly. Remember – in an emergency, call 911 first. Once you have done so, activate the Blue Light. |
|
Your Blue Light Kit is provided by the Ontario SALT Council (Seniors And Lawmen Together) for the safety and protection of the residents of Ontario County who are 60 years of age and older.
This is an activity of the area TRIAD agreement among the Sheriff and local Police Departments, senior citizens represented by the American Association of Retired Persons (Ontario Chapter) and Ontario County Office for the Aging. |
|
All programs are made possible by funding provided through the Administration on Aging, NYS Office for the Aging and the Ontario County Office for the Aging. |
