Deputy Swarthout and K9 Kelly
The Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit is comprised of members from the Road Patrol Division.
The K-9 Unit presently consists of four members – 3 German Shepherds and 1 Bloodhound.

They are:
  • Deputy Patrick Fitzgerald and K-9 Cecil
  • Deputy Stephen Swarthout and K-9 Kelly
  • Deputy Brian Lazarus and K-9 Dafne
  • Deputy Joe DiMariano and K-9 Addy
Cecil, Kelly and Dafne are “Patrol Dogs” and were imported to the United States from the Czech Republic. The teams were trained at the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department K9 training facility and received instruction in the areas of handler protection, tracking, building searches, area searches and evidence recovery. Cecil, Dafne, and Kelly are also cross trained for narcotic detection.  

Addy is a “Trailing Dog” and is used exclusively for locating people (criminals as well as lost persons).
